November 8, 2003:
Well, I have gotten a couple messages on ReefCentral from people wanting to see some pics of the tank. Nothing much to look at yet, but I guess I should show I really am making some of these projects for a reason...lol. The tank is nearly cycled, my ammonia is down to 0.2, so I am planning on making a few additions to the tank as soon as it gets to zero. I had a couple snail deaths that bumped the ammonia back up a bit, so waiting for it to zero again. I had a HUGE battle with hair algae at week 4. The tank looked like a carpet. Every single surface was covered with hair algae. I recieved some Chaetomorpha from a WetWebMedia forum member for the refugium, and over the past 2 weeks it has gone berserk in the refugium. The chaetomorpha along with some phosban in the sump, a cleaning crew of mixed snalils and hermit crabs, as well as my first fish Homer a lawnmower blennie have completely eradicated the hair algae in the main tank. I am now feeding Homer a combination of Nori sheets and Chaetomorpha with hair algae on it from the sump. I also just set up a CR-2 dual chamber calcium reactor from www.MyReefCreations.com. Andy there is a pleasure to deal with, so give him a look if you need a calcium reactor or skimmer. The first pic is of the tank at 6 weeks.
The left side, shows the nice cave in the rock.
Here is Homer the lawnmower blennie...cute fish, but he's camera shy.
