DIY Stand and Canopy Fans
BackPAGE 2 Next

Like I said I save everything...I dare anyone to be a bigger packrat...lol. I had some old DAT carts for a tape drive I had. The cases for the carts are plastic flip open types...hmm waterproof? COOL! Fit perfectly with a little help from an Xacto knife. I will seal it with silicone eventually...(read if there are ever problems...it's only 12v gees). Here is the case from the top:

And the bottom...see it really was a good fit. You can see the two molex connectors which will let me run 4 fans from one small wall wart...2 for each connector. Lucky the hard drive extenders I cut these from had male AND female connectors...molex connectors are relatively expensive unless you buy them by the thousand.

Next, I figured out where in the stand I wanted the fans...and since people said you need them blowing almost directly on the sump, then heck why not put it ON the sump...It's ONLY 12V people!!!! lol So back to the acrylic...man I love this stuff...so easy to build with. I made a little stand that fits securely on the front outside corner of the sump...just sits there with supports on the sides. I then drilled some holes for the high-tech fan mounting device... ZIP TIES (I should buy stock). Here is the little stand and the view of the fan..once again the mountain dew is there for size reference. You can see these are BIG fans if used in a computer case. 70 cubic feet of air per minute at 30 decibels is pretty darn good, and I can run 4 of them from the controller I made.
